Catherine Ludeau was born in Paris, graduated from the Ecole supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré, moved to New York in 1978, and worked as an illustrator for the press and publishing. She returned to France in 1981, and continued her artistic career with watercolour and sanguine drawing.
1999 is the beginning of oil painting. From 2000 and for 4 years, she will transmit her knowledge by giving courses in drawing, painting and watercolour. The first paintings with resin appear in 2011.
"It is clear that my inspiration lies first and foremost in nature. I need to give a mystical and spiritual dimension to my paintings. In my approach, I am immersed in a contemplative universe made up of metaphysical questions such as: what is the mystery of our existence? Why life? Why death? What happens to us after we die? Where is humanity going? I am inspired by the Zen philosophy which expresses serenity, balance, well-being and clarity of mind. I use the symbol to make the reading immediate. It is always this desire for total purity that drives me." - Catherine Ludeau
