"As part of the "Global Start up week end women" this work was realized. I am happy that through this magnificent movement, I have been able to convey this message of freedom and hope.
Equality, between man and woman The cube, the square represents oppression, the prison which can be the family, religion, husband, work, society... my protagonist is always in search of freedom, emancipation. Lola suffocates and rebels. She needs to get out of it, to escape.
It is making its revolution."

Donia Maaoui was born in Belgium in 1967, to a Belgian mother and a Tunisian father. At the age of seven, his family left Tunisia to settle in Brussels. In 1984, in parallel with her studies, she became a model for some of the biggest fashion brands. In 1993, she obtained her diploma as an architect at the Institut La Cambre in Brussels. She worked as an architect in Tunis and Brussels, where she met Michel Boucquillon, her future husband. Donia became his partner and consultant in architecture and design. In 2000, the couple moved to Santa Margherita Ligure in Italy with their daughter Uma. After two years their second daughter Noa was born.

Donia began to paint and sculpt. In 2004, the couple moved to Lucca, Tuscany, where they bought three ruins in the hills that will become "Casa Boucquillon" their place of life and work for both. In 2015, Casa Boucquillon receives the international "Expo tone Award".

"I am deeply European in my way of life. But Tunisia is in my heart. Very soon my origins will become part of my work. My theme fights all forms of oppression leading to a search for individual freedom. I would like to send a message of hope and reflection through a character and protagonist I called Lola."
