Matthias Mergot

Matthias Mergot lives and works between Paris, Montmartre, and Normandy. He began to paint at the age of 15, in parallel with his art studies and was quickly won over by German expressionist painting from the beginning of the 20th century and then by the abstract expressionism appeared in the United States after the second World War. His university formation is a subtle mixture between arts practices (painting, sculpture, engraving, calligraphy) and aesthetics and art history. He obtained a mastery of plastic arts in 2001 in Paris. He then travels a lot around the world without ever ceasing to paint, fascinating in particular for Australian Aboriginal painting: "I find the latter, although primitive, of an incredible modernity." In 2006, he taught in the prestigious Wesley College school in Perth in Australia. He mainly exhibits in France but also abroad. Without painting, intuitive and bright, strives to build a sensitive architecture. It builds and deconstructs the material, uses colors and impressions possibly extracted from nature to restore vague images. The lines are recurrent, the mineral, the plant and the trace of the omnipresent water. Referring to an organic representation through matter, he speaks of his sensitive perception of the world around him and the evolution of this perception.
