Having received a double training in Western art and Chinese brush art, Yu Zhao seeks to propose a new vision of the meditative world, through an innovative painting. Starting from the "ink game" of the Chinese tradition, and in the experimentation of new plastic gestures and writings, she seeks to create a kind of dynamic impression, which gives rise to imaginary landscapes, probably existing somewhere in the universe, inside ourselves. Yu Zhao’s main medium is tempera, an ancestral and mythical technique of Western art. Its gradient quality is close to the wash but gives a brighter and warmer glow. Applied to watercolour paper, it allows the intensity of movements and all the colours of emotions to be recorded with nuance. In China, as in the West, landscape painting is full of clichés that divide our eyes and imagination. For Yu Zhao, the secret of creating new compositions, new images, does not lie in the limited intellectual capacity of humans. It is at the bottom of nature that contemporary man is relearning to respect and recharge his batteries. Yu Zhao lives and works in Paris.
