A traveler, Philippe Viejo discovered the four corners of the world in his youth on board a family boat built with his father. A first trip marked by the chaotic movements of the sea, by the saturated colours of distant countries and by the practice of high level apnea for more than fifteen years in Martinique. During this journey, he kept the taste for adventure that he shares today with his wife and children: several "road trips" in Eastern Europe, USA, Canada. The crossing of the Americas from Tierra del Fuego to Alaska from July 2016 to August 2017.
Very early on, painting burst into his life. His teachers detected his talent and encouraged him to enrol in a National School of Fine Arts. The young man refines his knowledge of the different techniques. At the age of 20, he made his first exhibition in the south of France. About twenty figurative paintings are exhibited. They are all sold and he wins the Ingres Prize. Other regional and national awards will follow. Today, he proposes a mature and accomplished painting, the figurative gradually fades into a personal representation of the world embodied by matter, movement and colour.
Paintings of the journey, journeys of painting, his paintings tell both the world from the outside and the inside. The one the artist saw. The one who made him a man. A contemplative work that describes the beauty of the world and the richness of its mysteries. And that pushes the viewer to question himself on his own path. Because, to propose such a vision of the world, you must have really lived. Better yet, you have to have chosen your life well.
