La Dame de Coeur is a large format totem pole painted with acrylic and India ink, mixing carbon black and grayscale. The painting is based on a Kwele mask from the Republic of Congo/Gabon, once part of the Viviane Jutheau, Countess de Witt collection.

It represents the generosity, kindness, lucidity, but also the extreme sensitivity of the people of heart. It is a talisman, a serene and vigilant guardian, framed by wide extreme black flat areas, revealing a multiplicity of luminous transmutations. It exudes a calm and a surprising presence, inviting to meditation. Almond eyes, diamond-shaped face inscribed in enveloping horns, this portrait pays homage to African art and the beauty of its ritual masks - those that inspired Brassaï, Cocteau and Picasso so much.

Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine is a writer, singer and painter. A former student of Radio France, Sciences Po Paris and HEC, she has worked with Michel Fugain, Elie Chouraqui, Roger Louret and Jean-Claude Camus. She has sung at Folies Bergère, Le Zénith, for M6, France Télévisions and in several musicals in Paris.

At the same time, she wrote a historical and fantastic three-volume saga, "Les Brumes de Grandville", and published a fourth novel in January 2019, "De poudre, de cendre et d’or", by French Pulp Éditions. His painting is a paper music, influenced by his stage experience, cubism, surrealism and African art.

Passionate about the 1920s period, she likes to conversate her "unconscious in the open air" with totems in Indian ink and jugs dancing; we find the influence of Cocteau, Picasso, Gio Ponti and the African masks that are dear to her.

"I never know where a painting will take me and I am always surprised by the final result, which appears before my eyes as a premonition, a message from the afterlife. »

"In my life, I have always been in search of freedom, and the most absolute freedom is painting. »

"I am fascinated by the masks and the magical charge of African art. »
