The "Soul mates" is a work on paper that mixes acrylic paint, ink and black ballpoint pen. Graphically, it incorporates spiritual and surrealist elements, some of which are inspired by the collection of the visionary Maharajah Yeshwant Rao Holkar II, builder of the Manik Bagh Palace (1930-1933).

Le Corbusier, Man Ray, Jean Puiforcat scatter mysterious symbols on paper, animated by a supernatural power, and similar to the human brain. Close to the automatic writing or the guiding hand of the medium, this staircase drawing does not obey any conscious logic, but leaves a lot to the artist's waking dream - his questioning, his projections and his vision of the future.

Strange coded initials dialogue with the astrological symbol of the fish, the engagement rings, the crystal ball-shaped eye, the moon or the "Love Chair", which the artist loves. Graphic abstraction does not exclude the sensuality and unconscious power of the elements present, which remind us that true soul mates need neither rationality nor words to understand each other. They breathe and function like mirrors.

Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine is a writer, singer and painter. A former student of Radio France, Sciences Po Paris and HEC, she has worked with Michel Fugain, Elie Chouraqui, Roger Louret and Jean-Claude Camus. She has sung at Folies Bergère, Le Zénith, for M6, France Télévisions and in several musicals in Paris.

At the same time, she wrote a historical and fantastic three-volume saga, "Les Brumes de Grandville", and published a fourth novel in January 2019, "De poudre, de cendre et d’or", by French Pulp Éditions. His painting is a paper music, influenced by his stage experience, cubism, surrealism and African art.

Passionate about the 1920s period, she likes to conversate her "unconscious in the open air" with totems in Indian ink and jugs dancing; we find the influence of Cocteau, Picasso, Gio Ponti and the African masks that are dear to her.

"I never know where a painting will take me and I am always surprised by the final result, which appears before my eyes as a premonition, a message from the afterlife. »

"In my life, I have always been in search of freedom, and the most absolute freedom is painting. »

"I am fascinated by the masks and the magical charge of African art. »
