"I've been working on body expression and faces for years, and every now and then an old painting falls into my hand. This painting from 1998 suddenly inspires me again and I start retouching it. More in detail and by doubling the materials, adding collages and then on the surface with a painting under the glass of the frame. This is the last act, giving relief and new depth to the work.
The theme: Annunciation is very ambiguous, which I like in my work. Annunciation in the religious context evokes a happy event, but with a brief glimpse of a drama and a tragedy to come. So misfortune is already in the happy event. Then the announcement in our contemporary world, I see it rather as a warning about our environment which is at stake now." - Nina Urlichs
