"A gas mask is a mask used to protect the user from inhaling air pollutants and toxic gases. The mask forms a sealed blanket over the nose and mouth, but can also cover the eyes and other vulnerable soft tissues of the face. Most gas masks are also respirators, although the term gas mask is often used to refer to military equipment (such as a protective field mask). The gas mask only protects the user from digestion, inhalation and eye contact (many agents affect through eye contact).

All my works are inspired by walls with patinated posters, flaking paint and all kinds of things in decline. I try to create something new, something beautiful with these elements. I assemble original photographs, assorted papers, acrylic, oil, charcoal, ink and pencil into my works.

I have always enjoyed the look of patinated walls covered with peeling paint and old posters, and I am revisiting this aesthetic with, I hope, a sharp and professional eye".

Using a multitude of materials, db Waterman assembles and mixes techniques to compose scenes of life and landscapes. The choice of collage as an artistic medium leads it to push back its limits for ever more transparency and play of materials.

A variety of materials possible thanks to bonding

db Waterman assembles original photographs, matching papers, acrylics, oil, charcoal, ink and pencil in her works. The variety of resources she can use is essential for her.

Her challenge: to get closer to the transparency of painting

Getting into the technique of collage is a challenge for db Waterman since her lack of transparency is merciless. Finding a way to reproduce the effects of transparency that painting offers, in particular watercolors, is for this artist a "great victory". Her preparatory work is reflected in her collages. Layer after layer, the material remains visible in finished parts.

Melancholy as a common thread

According to db Waterman, her work allows him to constantly reinvent herself. Having always loved the look of weathered walls coated in peeling paint and old posters, she resurrects that aesthetic with a crisp, sharp look.

The creative goal of her work is to "do something beautiful out of decay". Her paintings, which explore the dissonance between old and new materials, highlight dreamlike and melancholic images.
