Who hasn't dreamed of flying? The bird symbolizes freedom, it can move in all directions of space, freeing itself from gravity. This painting was made when our freedom is suddenly limited by the risk of contagion of the virus. Painting and looking at a painting can help us to free our mind if not our body. It comes from a symmetry (mirror) of a part of another painting entitled "Between the ocean and the sky". These wings are reminiscent of the Egyptian goddess Nekhbet who is protective...Under these protective wings are birds that seem to be waiting for something...The symmetry shows two birds facing each other or a cat's head...This work was done with charcoal lines, acrylic, acrylic felt, ink sprayed in droplets.

Born in 1968, Florence Laurent is a French painter living near Montpellier. Drawing and painting have always been his passion.

Florence Laurent does not seek to be part of a real artistic movement, but simply to express a feeling, an emotion. His language is color above all else. Tones close to those of the Montpellier scrubland where she likes to walk, never garish, always worked in softness and subtlety. Coloured greys in harmony with the earth colours. His compositions are detached from all reality, it is his universe and his feeling of the world. We can compare them to a logbook that retraces moments of emotion in the face of life's mystery.

Painting allows him to feel a spiritual elevation, a connection to his inner being; to escape from materiality, from gravity, to abandon the horizontal dimension for the vertical dimension. She uses symbols such as the bird and the mountain to express her feelings. Often depopulated landscapes invite the viewer to contemplate and meditate on the hidden meaning. It evokes the passing of time, the impermanence of things with the spiral, water, movement.

She wishes to convey to the viewer this feeling of spiritual ascension. A light, a landscape, everything is worked without restraint! With the brush as a feather, the canvas as paper, the spectator can read his impressions and appropriate them subjectively. This artistic approach is supported by the technique that becomes its true character, colour. Goodbye to shapes that welcome colour, it's COLOUR that guides the shape!

Like a cloud in the sky, every motif finds definition in the viewer. This pictorial serenity is shaken by the vibrant and imposing black lines. Like musical notes, they bring action to the colour. Their jerky rhythm loses the spectator's understanding in order to immerse them in his abstraction. It is this contrast between the power of the line and the softness of the tones that calls out and makes it his signature.

Florence Laurent likes above all to play with the infinite magic of the mixture of colours and their chords, mainly with acrylic. She does not prevent herself from mixing acrylic with other techniques such as dry pastel for its powdered effect or even Indian ink and charcoal for the graphics. It uses different supports: paper, cardboard, canvas, wood, each with its own qualities. For some works she chooses a narrow palette of broken tones, but can also make intense colours vibrate, it's all a question of state of mind at the beginning of the work. She likes to use the many effects that acrylic allows: impasto, sgraffito, projections, knife work, brush work, finger work, glazing... with great freedom.
