This scene illustrates the looting that took place during the power outage that plunged Brooklyn into the darkness and heat of a summer night in July 1977. A context of ongoing financial and economic crisis, a neighbourhood that bears the scars of the urban policy of ghettoization, oppressive heat and lightning striking the city. Like a signal coming from above to launch the people, white-hot, into a reappropriation of property - redistribution or looting, depending on the interpretation that each one will want to give it - the time of a dark night soon lit by the ensuing fires. It was during this event that the hip hop movement flourished. The unfortunate artists found there the opportunity to take possession of their production tools.

This work is being offered to you as part of a solidarity sale organised by Emmaus International, the profits from which will be used to support its member groups in 41 countries in Africa, America, Asia and Europe and to finance their solidarity work with the most excluded.

Jinks Kunst, born in Switzerland in 1976, is a self-taught multidisciplinary visual artist. He hijacks traffic signs, makes realistic paintings using stencils and plays with pixels by creating portraits with legos, cigarette filters or beer capsules.

He is lulled into art by his grandfather, an art ceramist (best in France), poet and inventor. At the end of the 1980s, rap music and culture punctuated his life. He is then challenged by the visual of Mode2 in the skateboard magazine NoWay, then by the cover of the album "Chromatique", of the Swiss group Sens Unik, signed by Lazoo of the MAC collective.

He starts sketching graffiti lettering. Since the beginning of the 2000s, Jinks participates in exhibitions and events in France and abroad (Switzerland, Italy, England, Cambodia, Benin, Senegal, Nepal, United States...). His works are present in several private collections, and published in a dozen international books.

Jinks Kunst travels in order to share and transmit his artistic technique and thus develop the social link around a participative project.
