Acrylic paint, aerosol, felt-tip pens on canvas 40 x 40 x 1 cm

This painting evokes the duality of mankind, its share of light and its share of shadow that coexist and clash. We think of Pascal's thought, "He who wants to be an angel makes the beast". But beauty resides on both sides and unity, balance, needs to embrace the whole being. There is here a work on the abstract evocation of various feelings and emotions, dear to Kandinsky.

This work is being offered to you as part of a solidarity sale organised by Emmaus International, the profits from which will be used to support its member groups in 41 countries in Africa, America, Asia and Europe and to finance their solidarity work with the most excluded people.

Loïc Saulin was born in Dijon in 1983. He grew up in a world of progressive music, surrounded by esoteric comic strips such as the Incal, by Jodorowsky and Moebius, leading him quickly to abandon a materialistic vision of the world and to develop more abstract, conceptual aspirations.

After studying illustration, comics and cartoons, he became an illustrator and comic book author himself. At the same time, he began to teach comics in various schools and for art therapy courses. He then realized how important it is for him to help others find the resources to visually represent what they need to express. His personal works, semi-abstract paintings, are part of this approach, a kind of gateway to the subconscious, each one being able to interpret forms and lines in his own way, revealing by association of ideas a new story with each reading.

It is in 2016 in Berlin that he develops, mainly with acrylic paint and aerosol cans, his pictorial technique and starts to exhibit in galleries in Berlin, London and Paris. Inspired by the exuberance and colourful abundance of Kandinsky or Albert Oehlen, Loïc Saulin is at the crossroads of currents such as lyrical abstraction, futurism, or rather his updated conception, graffuturism.

You can read in Loïc Saulin's paintings what you yourself breathe into them. The contemplation of one of his works leads each one to follow a path, a different story according to what the shapes and colours evoke. Nothing is fixed, each form can change its appearance as the journey unfolds and successively signify several ideas, associations of ideas where the unconscious of each one is revealed.
