Characteristic work of the artist, the work "Silver Japonica" is a mixture of neo-expressionist symbols and calligraphic characters borrowed from different alphabets, applied with pigment ink on canvas for a contrasting result. Strong symbols, and totem animals, divinatory characters rub shoulders with signs called "Neoglyphs" or pop pictograms, invented Japanese characters, hidden messages, entirely dedicated to free interpretation. The subject is created instinctively, with the sole aim of not drifting towards graphic automatisms. This results in forms that are easily appropriated, as they seem so familiar to us.

The brutality of the graffiti, the softness of the art of calligraphy but also the Cyrillic alphabet or hieroglyphics ... Woo plays with symbols and our imagination in addition.

Jack-of-all-trades with Asian roots

His pseudonym evokes both his Asian roots and his experience in Hong Kong. Within the Le Comptoir group and aboard its flagship, the Bibo restaurant, Woo drowns in the works of Banksy, Murakami, Arsham, Ron English, Jonone, Basquiat, Invader, Hirst, Kaws, Shepard Fairey, André, JR and many others. This initiatory journey reaches its peak with the Art Basel Hong Kong exhibitions, an absolute concentrate of creativity and inspiration.

Woo is a jack of all trades: music, furniture design - notably in collaboration with New Yorker Karim Rashid -, interior architecture ... He is a multidisciplinary artist who has been working in Bordeaux since 2005.

An instinctive art that unfolds between Street Art and calligraphy

Inspired from childhood by the graphic universe of Keith Haring or Niki de Saint Phalle, Woo's production is characterized by a technique combining acrylic paint, pigment inks, Posca markers, gilding. His preferred media are paper or canvas. No matter what sizes, large or small, no one can stop this incorrigible creative!

His art is at the crossroads of Street Art and calligraphy. Some of his works address contemporary societal themes that the eye in its stroll will be able to identify by the symbol.

Lately, we were able to meet Woo at the Halle Héméra in Bordeaux for the KAZoART back-to-school exhibition in September 2020. A beautiful evening during which Woo produced an exceptional live painting lasting almost 2 hours!
