A background that is both tonic and nuanced, where each colour has been placed, then scraped, worn, eroded, marked by the passage of time, as would be an ancient wall. On this wall, which has become a joyful page, the artist has inscribed the lines, the rhythm and the gestures of a writing - imaginary graffiti. Then he placed the bright and joyful colours of life and of the moment. It was necessary to seize this moment, this rhythm and this soft cheerfulness before they fade away. The dominant red blends with orange and shades of blue for a luminous and tonic presence. Against this backdrop, the lines, characters and rhythm dance and celebrate life in all its glory and excitement.

Marc Laffolay has devoted himself to painting and sculpture for more than 20 years. He lives and works in Pïcardie (France). His works can be found in many private collections in France, but also in Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Spain, South Africa, Canada, the United States and the Netherlands. The whole of Marc Laffolay's work is influenced by that which touches life, the timeless, where the moment has meaning only as a result of everything that has preceded it since the dawn of time. What we are experiencing now is the fruit of these transmissions, these presences and these stories that have succeeded one another, shaping matter and spirit. And we, who are going through this moment to leave our mark, are inscribed in this continuity, in this timelessness, in this perpetual movement. A march and a quest that never ends. "To write with the tip of a stick on the surface of the still water that dances and plays for a moment with sun, shadow and light. Then it returns to its original form. Seize that moment before it fades away. To fix it in the material or on the canvas, to immortalize drops of life. "It is first of all verticality or the search for verticality that characterizes his work as a sculptor. The pieces rise, straight or sinuous. The vertical is not only a geometric reference, it is a dynamic, a momentum. It is the dynamic of the human being. The surface of his sculptures is marked, scarified and sometimes burnt. A quest for the essential. The tactile, sensual dimension is also important to him: "There is the eye and there is the hand. I like to think that what the eye sees, the hand visits it and that it is under the hand that is placed there that life palpitates. "On the other hand, there is the more impulsive, shimmering image of his inks and paintings. The backgrounds of his paintings play the card of transparency. A superimposition of scratched, worn, sanded colours. And on these backgrounds, as on an old wall, will be inscribed, impulsive, writing, sign and rhythm. "In fact, I find myself facing a wall, a very old wall. And on this wall, I start writing, adding my own imprint. It's impulsive, it's rhythmic, it's almost animal. I'm tagging !!! "Finally, to celebrate and fix the moment, it fills some of the spaces or forms that these signs draw, with often bright and joyful colours: life! "Because life is movement, I need, in continuity, to see my work evolve, to leave new traces on the walls. It's not always comfortable, it's like crossing a ford, but the repetition scares me and dries me out. »
