Maurice Guery lives and works in France, in Thiers. An architect by profession, he has always drawn and painted for over forty years. At the beginning, his approach was turned towards the figuration, then little by little it went towards the abstraction. His abstract painting, which he has been doing for over 10 years, brings him much more emotion and freedom.
"Painting is a necessity. A need, a search for risk-taking, for putting oneself in danger. The instability, the wobble. How? To be available, with an empty head. Always painting. It is by painting, by always painting, that painting reveals itself. It is not an idea, an objective that leads me to painting. You have to throw yourself into it and then it comes... or not. To get rid of the heaviness of techniques, habits, elegance. Forgetting and drowning in painting, not knowing what will happen so that something happens.
What is born from this process is only painting, it only expresses itself. My work is a lively dialogue that is sometimes established with the support, hence the errors, the repentances, the patches. Maurice Guery
