Oil on canvas. symbolizing old Polaroids

Polaroids are a distancing of the landscape by the photo. Like people who, while walking, see nature only through the prism of the camera and no longer through the sensations of smell, light, heat and sound. These "polas" are a way to focus attention on this deviance. The treatment of these polaroids gives them an appearance of old photo a little nostalgic of a time when when we walked the only images brought back were the memories, the sensations...

Eric HERRMANN born in 1971 is a self-taught painter who lives and works in SCHILTIGHEIM (near STRASBOURG). He exhibits regularly in France and abroad since 2006.

Nature has always been at the center of his work, as a pretext to explore the lights, the texture of the air ... These landscapes are in fact atmospheres where timelessness, mystery and light are the main actors. Nature is bare, silent, devoid of any artifice... The moment can be dawn or dusk, the beginning or the end of something. Here the human being is present only by his glance dragged in its heart by the light inviting him to walk there, to lose himself there, to dream there...

Recently, Eric Herrmann's work has turned towards a critique of our society and its impact on our environment, such as the "Impressions" series where nature is "streaked" with horizontal or vertical lines as if altered by technology. This puts a distance between the viewer and the landscape that becomes an image.

Polaroids are also a distancing of the landscape by the photo. Like people who, while walking, see nature only through the prism of the camera and no longer through the sensations of smell, light, heat and sound. These "polas" are a way to focus attention on this deviance. The treatment of these Polaroids gives them the appearance of old nostalgic photos from a time when the only images brought back were memories and sensations.
