This painting plunges us into a dreamlike universe with realistic contours. The artist represented herself narrowed down in a large golden cage, surrounded by birds of all kinds and sizes, as if she were one of them. Although the doors of the aviary cage are wide open, we clearly feel the confinement of the protagonists, their possible but ultimately inaccessible freedom. The very colourful beauty of the birds "makes up" the claustrophobic background of the painting.
