Often referred to as "cold beauty" or "exquisite corpse", Jam Despas’ work plays with contrasts of all shapes and represents the body in its most paradoxical aspects. Deliberately dehumanized and freed from all social values (ethnicity, culture, sexuality, clothing...), his painting deconstructs what makes up the physical identity of a body. The more naked he is, the more we discover the coldness of the skin’s material, the psychological violence it conceals. What interests him is above all to understand what the body of his models is made of, what constitutes them, what builds them and sometimes even deconstructs them. A memory, a feeling, an emotion, in short what he calls "the act of the sublime" are often the starting point of his paintings.
