The painting depicts different species of bears in their respective habitats: the left part where polar bears evolve in an entirely mineral environment contrasts with the right, where the plant takes over and accompanies pandas and brown bears. A huge grizzly bear standing on its hind legs separates the universes from the diptych thus constituted, while their unification takes place from above with the same sky extending above the horizon line.

By its composition, the work is reminiscent of Delacroix’s "Freedom Guiding the People": the posture of the artist who dressed himself in the skin of an animal, as well as those of the bears beside him, restore the strength of the famous symbol of rebellion. This is a strong plea for the preservation of bears, which were once considered to be the ancestors of the human species, and, by extension, of nature, of our common future on this planet.

On the web, the future seems very uncertain: Does the perceptive raven bode ill or does it conjure up bad luck? What future for the female bear and her young who are moving away into the unknown? Finally, we cannot decide if the sky is that of a morning or announces the twilight...

The painter often places the human silhouette she masters best, her image, in order to play with our perceptions and develop a lush pictorial language. Animality is the centerpiece of a curiosity cabinet where the ancestral feelings of the psyche are expressed: fear, anger, laughter...
