"I like to observe. If there is something that attracts my attention, that inspires me, it makes me want to create. My painting begins with an idea. I rarely paint directly in front of the object. A painting must grow inside me. Then, in my workshop, my work takes shape. I always start with sketches and then underlayments. I like working with the equipment.

My preference is for oil painting, which has all the qualities to express my feelings. I like to make a difference on my canvases by accentuating them with more pronounced impasto, playing with the reliefs and using thin layers of paint. My favorite tools are the palette knife, brushes, fingers and everything else I have at hand. It’s time for the mystery. I am progressing into the unknown.

I express my feelings. I create... The atmosphere, mood, emotion play an important role in my paintings. My paintings are like poetry. I often touch up my paintings. Hanging on the wall I look at them for a while. Then I start working again until I am satisfied with the result. I like to paint genre scenes, nudes and contemporary landscapes." - Misha Sydorenko
