Ink, oil, glaze, engraving, monotype, marouflage on linen canvas
Exploring the site of the Chapel of St Sulpice in Istres with the great Figures of Painting, this was the project of this exhibition in 2014: entering into painting and conversation with Artemisia, Rubens, Le Caravage, Leonardo da Vinci, Cranach, Rembrandt, Cima. At the origin of the painting, there is the encounter with a work from the past. Then begins the composition with the assembly of drawings, engravings, monotypes. The support, made of outdated linen canvas and worked on the floor, is loaded in colour with pigments before the various Japanese papers are marouflaged. Finally, oil painting, sometimes gold powder and many glazes take shape in the painting. Ink drawing is most often a graphic counterpoint to the chosen iconographic document. As for colour, like a binder, it is responsible for fixing all these different plastic elements so that they enter into conversation.

57 works

For more than 35 years, including the years of training (Fine Arts in Lyon, Decorative Arts Villa Arson Nice, Doctorate Arts Plastiques Sorbonne Paris) it is to painting that Lucile Travert has dedicated her life and work.

She acquired the skills of the profession of painting, drawing, engraving at the same time as she enriched her artistic knowledge by exploring the history of art through the prisms of literature, music, philosophy, poetry, architecture, photography, sculpture...

The question of the body, of the figure, is for her the fundamental question. She conducts research inspired by the major works of the great masters of painting such as Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Leonardo da Vinci, Rubens, Titian but also contemporaries such as Cy Twombly, Bacon, Giacometti, Alechinsky, Garouste, Anselm Kieffer... His daily work continues within the stone walls of his studio, a historic setting in the heart of the courtyard of Château de Lauris, a Luberon village nestled on a rocky spur overlooking the Durance plain in Provence.

For 20 years, Lucile Travert has regularly presented her work to an informed public at exhibitions in both emblematic and prestigious places (Abbey, Chapel, Art Centre, Galleries). She also likes to meet new eyes and make her painting accessible to everyone.
