After starting a preparatory class in biology, Vincent Ygout joined the Regional School of Fine Arts in Rouen and then the National School of Fine Arts in Paris in the Joël Kermarrec studio. During his training, he will practice oil painting, photography and video, work with which he obtains his diploma. From 2008, he returns exclusively to oil painting, to which is slowly added a new work of drawing made with felt pen and ink on paper. When he draws, it is to elaborate a vegetal universe far from his painting, he sets up a freer technique, detached from the photo 'model'. When he paints, with a small brush, the surface of the canvas often remains almost smooth, with very little material, to create a particularly 'muffled' atmosphere whatever the subject: this is how he takes us to discover landscapes or empty places but he also knows how to put us in front of characters and faces that sometimes look at us. Today, the themes he tackles are those of childhood, his relationship with the world, and our view of it, but also the question of loneliness, of individuals in the world, of the future ... As for his drawings, after having worked for a long time in a world of vegetal inspiration, the last "trees" remain but he is in the process of setting up a work that is in line with the same themes as those of painting.
