Ho My An’s work exudes humanity and softness. Her female subjects are all looks, lights and curves, sensuality and multiple femininity. Successfully she imprints the illusion of a present onto a face.
Drawing as linguistic expression
Guided by her five senses, Ho My An has taken only the essential from her studies in plastic arts and art history, rediscovering a certain freedom and authenticity in her approach to life drawing.
Going beyond words, a dressed or naked silhouette expresses its emotional relationship with its physical embodiment, the Earth’s breathe and the culture that carries it. The artist aims to capture this corporal language, providing an interpretation through her art.
Travel as a guiding theme
Travel is the inspiration for Ho My An’s work. She observes and tries to understand the men and women around her. Her sketches reinterpreted in watercolour and moving pigments tell the story of different cultures, bodies in movement and her love for humankind.
She takes the time to observe the sensation of space, people, light, sounds, breath and the sensuality of destinations. Instead of simplifying immediacy, she seeks a certain complexity in slowness. This is expressed in varied but never commonplace techniques, in watercolour glazing or diluted oil.
She aims to offer her audience an opportunity for stationary travel, a medium for dreaming, meditation and above all joy.
