In the impenetrable jungle, a clearing where animals have ventured out of the darkness. Once again depicted in his animal and virginal nudity, the artist has taken his place in the midst of these exotic species, some of which are endangered: we recognize a bat and a pangolin hiding behind the painter's skull, these scapegoats, the designated culprits of the pandemic that is frightening the world.

The animals seem surprised to be so exposed to the eyes of the "outside world". With its ears back, the caracal is afraid of what is approaching. In women, there is first of all this meditative posture, this serious look. Then, some would see mistrust in the intensity of her gaze, perhaps even a cold anger...

She protects the pangolin like a mother would for her child. A new reflection on our behavior as a species that is trying to destroy others to better precipitate its possible, if not probable, loss... A denunciation of bushmeat consumption that endangers biodiversity and the world we love.

Victoria Stagni’s figurative painting, which was born in Buenos Aires to a Paraguayan father and an Argentinean mother, oscillates between realism and dreamlikeism. His imagination is inspired by the works of great Latin American writers such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Alejo Carpentier, where nature often plays a major role.

This "magical realism" inspires him to create figurative, colourful and luminous canvases in which characters are represented in a fantasized nature, surrounded by a whole friendly or threatening bestiary. The painter often places the human silhouette she masters best, her image, in order to play with our perceptions and develop a lush pictorial language. Animality is the centerpiece of a curiosity cabinet where the ancestral feelings of the psyche are expressed: fear, anger, laughter...
