"After a long period without being able to paint, for reasons of travel and moving, I started to draw more regularly, a simplified artistic practice when I was away from home and without a studio. For some time now I have been able to get a studio and surprisingly, in my first productions it was this kind of painting that came to me quite naturally. There I discover images of my travel memories, landscapes that I have seen for thousands of kilometers. More surprisingly, they are spaces between the earth and the predominant sky, between chaos and fragile stability, between dreams and a long-delayed reality, features that suggest more than they mean." Richard Vildeman paints, while simultaneously working on the creation of engravings and sculptures. Using various techniques ranging from painting to drawing, including stencils and writings, Richard Vildeman conceives his work as an assembly of graphic clues while in balance with a real painter's work of color. To do this, for many years he has been collecting images from the collective memory [archetypes], and [in the imagery of the world], in order to constitute a visual "encyclopedia". The artist selects fragments that he arranges so that, once put together, they "become bearers of symbols, of [unconscious] poetic meaning" or of commitment.
