ink, oil, glaze, pigment, marouflage on linen canvas. This painting is made on linen canvas that I receive at my "virgin" workshop and for which I make all the coating and gluing preparations. During these preparations, I introduce pigments to structure and colour the base of the support. I work on the free canvas that has been outdated, then I mount it on a French-made wooden frame using many seeds. The drawings are made in ink on Japanese Wenzhou papers with the edges of the paper fringed by hand before the stamping operation on the canvas. The lamination consists in laminating (with a neutral PH framer’s glue) a thin paper on a thicker support: paper, fabric, wood, cardboard. I use this paper specifically to undertake work that is both precise for the graphic parts and for its ability to receive workload work. In the case of oil painting, the colouring operation is carried out by touching each layer of glaze with your finger. The brushes would not allow me to have such a direct relationship with colour. In most of my creations, I borrow iconographic documents - here a detail of Füssli’s work 1782 The Nightmare - from the History of Art. I like to enter into conversation with the major works of painting and write about them or about the painter, thus mixing my own history as a painter. The work cited, Füssli’s The Nightmare, explores the dream and, as a corollary, the nightmare, the dark side of romanticism. We discover a sleeping girl, a demon sitting on her stomach "Painting of horror with morbid eroticism" will say the painter’s contemporaries.

Lauris en Luberon (84), France

56 works

For more than 35 years, including the years of training (Fine Arts in Lyon, Decorative Arts Villa Arson Nice, Doctorate Arts Plastiques Sorbonne Paris) it is to painting that Lucile Travert has dedicated her life and work.

She acquired the skills of the profession of painting, drawing, engraving at the same time as she enriched her artistic knowledge by exploring the history of art through the prisms of literature, music, philosophy, poetry, architecture, photography, sculpture...

The question of the body, of the figure, is for her the fundamental question. She conducts research inspired by the major works of the great masters of painting such as Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Leonardo da Vinci, Rubens, Titian but also contemporaries such as Cy Twombly, Bacon, Giacometti, Alechinsky, Garouste, Anselm Kieffer... His daily work continues within the stone walls of his studio, a historic setting in the heart of the courtyard of Château de Lauris, a Luberon village nestled on a rocky spur overlooking the Durance plain in Provence.

For 20 years, Lucile Travert has regularly presented her work to an informed public at exhibitions in both emblematic and prestigious places (Abbey, Chapel, Art Centre, Galleries). She also likes to meet new eyes and make her painting accessible to everyone.
