It was after seeing Van Gogh's work face-to-face at an exhibition in Arles that self-taught artist O.Boissinot discovered his latent passion. His art wavers between the figurative and synthetic, composed of flat tints of colour, outlined in black, never quite taking that final step to abstraction.
From one trip to the next
O.Boissinot was born in Aix-en-Province and remains very fond of his provincial homeland. He has always lived between two antagonistic towns: the muted and conservative Aix-en-Provence and the passionate people's city of Marseilles. Depending on his mood, he draws inspiration from the serenity of one or the energy of the other.
His visceral curiosity has led him to travel to diverse areas of the planet, including the United States, Morocco and most European countries.
Bright colours to celebrate life
The mark of these travels can be found in some of the pictorial themes dear to O.Boissinot, such as provincial landscapes, jazz in New Orleans, scenes of life in Morocco and bullfighting.
For more than thirty years, he has painted, exhibited and sold his paintings throughout the world. His approach is essentially sensual, driven by the juxtaposition of pure colours, which creates the intense emotions he wants to share.
