Vilma LEINO, born in 1999, is a photographer of Finnish origin. Graduated in graphic design from the "Helsinki Design School", Leino is currently studying photography at the University of Europe in Berlin. Since 2019 she lives and works in Berlin. In 2015 she embarked on photography with great success.

During the confinement, the artist makes numerous self-portraits and thus invites us to contemplate her artistic and emotional world. Scenes of everyday life where the artist stages her body showing the multiple facets of her personality. She begins to work on her self-portraits at the beginning of the confinement. The period of health crisis becomes for her an opportunity for significant discovery in terms of creation. The camera replaces the mirror where she explores her inner world.

The rigidity of the artist's body, presented as if it were made of plastic, sometimes retranscribed as a body double, proposes a melancholic story, leaving the viewer to complete the story. However, the diversity of the artist's emotions is broken by the liveliness of the colors and a certain humorous dimension that animates the compositions.

The choice of colors is one of the characteristics of his works and opens the door to a synesthetic world where emotions are transmitted through colors. Happiness embodied by green or anger by pink are concretized in dreamy photographs where Leino amalgamates vibrant colors.

Leino transforms the solitude of weeks of confinement into an artistic experience where she explores through the lens an environment in which she liberates her personalities. The fixity of the body gives an impression of temporal suspension, while reflecting through the brightness of colors and a staging conferring burlesque, a malström of emotions too strong to be repressed.

Lyon Particule invites you to discover the work of the young artist, in a first exhibition of great visual wealth. At the time of the reopening, Leino invites us to share the way in which art can manifest itself, even when the world is at a standstill.
