Vincent Descotils' photography may be a matter of belief, within a game of discoveries and leaks. We immerse ourselves in it like blind people groping around in shapes and textures, which have become new. As an extension of his work in drawing and scenography, Vincent Descotils never ceases to define, to model with the determination of a goldsmith, his photographic universe by bringing him closer to the memories of childhood with what memories have of trouble and indistinctness, with what childhood has of poetics, dreamlike, happy or anxious. It is finally a question of talking about the first look. Anti-nostalgic since nothing is fixed. Made of an original black and white, a chiaroscuro with details calling for exploration. This look is irresistible to us because it speaks directly to our unconscious. Our impressions become confused and need to be redefined... Vincent Descotils crushes, violently, kneads and caresses his images halfway through their sleep. Its texture effects are then a skin, sometimes rough, sometimes soft, the surface and sap of a body (in one gesture) that is articulated according to the meanders of our memories. The disorder is indeed all the material of his photographs, as much in his subjects, the elaboration of impalpable, meditative, nostalgic, but always poetic and mysterious visions, as in their treatment. "Being a photographer is the way I have chosen to share my vision of the world and it is also the way for me to know what I see."
