Mathilde Oscar was born in Paris in 1980, she lives and works in Cannes.
Photography was not an obvious thing for her at first, her first medium was painting, which she had been practicing for years. When she discovered photography in 2013, it was to transpose her pictorial ideas, strongly inspired by the old masters of painting, romanticism and neo-classicism. This is how we find in her works that light and that particular atmosphere that make her photographs true paintings. The making of sets, costumes and props is often added to his creative process, but sometimes some of his inspirations can emerge from a digitally created world. She thus develops a unique visual art blending the codes of classical painting with photography and digital manipulation.
Very often anachronistic and offbeat, Mathilde Oscar's portraits seem lost in an unknown space and time, with multiple references to the history of Art. Her universe is then romantic and sometimes tinged with surrealism, where her characters, often feminine, proudly pose as charismatic Amazons.
