Martin Amic

A filmmaker ("My Dear Parents", ...), screenwriter, actor (some films and hundreds of fictions and readings for France Culture), Martin AMIC begins photography very early on. These different artistic practices are enriched each other. In 2009, he met with a long time Willy Ronis who analyzes his work carefully, pointing with kindness the elements on which he must progress. What he does conscientiously the eight years that follow.
Today, his photographic work has matured. The image, inseparable from the accompanying text, becomes a fragment of extraordinary history that the imaginary of the spectator enriches.

For square formats on a black or white background with a very limited draw: always, whatever the medium, he has been interested in the abolition of the frame. In the work presented here, the light or its absence accompany the gaze towards the colors or the subject by dissolving the frame and the useless, while opening the imagination on the concealed parts. The flats of black and white create a distance from the subject, as a Brechtian distancing, which shows the photographic object differently. Martin Amic offers a reflection on the erasure of the boundaries between photography, painting and drawing.

"Fiat lux! And the light was. It is from this primordial darkness that Martin Amic makes us discover all that we do not see of the objects or architectures that we thought of knowing. But more than a terrestrial light through His photos is a light of penetrating sensitive humanity that radiates us! What a beautiful discovery that these photos! " Nathalie Kaufmann-Khelifa Historian of art, author.
