Didier Surel was born in Saint-Malo in 1958. He is characterized as "a photographer who walks", being one of the people who like to stroll.
"Since I was old enough to look through a lens, I’ve been taking pictures. I kept them for a long time for myself and those around me, perhaps out of modesty or fear of surrendering myself to others... And then one day I took the plunge, showed my images to a publisher, he loved them and published them: "Dans la Tourmente", Grand West editions. Today, I would like to present them to you.
I like clouds as much as I like jazz or the Doors album, L.A. Woman, especially the track "Riders On The Storm". I find the musical atmosphere of this piece particularly in adequacy with my images. I also like coffee very much, it warms me up after the rain... Taking pictures also means taking the luxury of wasting that precious time that we often say we would "miss". I have a rather contemplative photographic universe, preferring B & W and long poses. I would like my images to inspire calm, silence, wandering, strolling, but also to attract attention to textures, organic materials, whether fragile and ephemeral or hard as rock." Didier Surel
