Juliana Borinski

Juliana Borinski is a German-Brazilian artist based in Paris, in France. Her art is exposed internationally in contemporary art centers and museums since 2006. Working with fixed images and often without camera (photography) and in motion (film, installation, video), she experiences the conjunction between iconography and iconoclasm.
Juliana's works explore various media issues through an analysis of their primary resources: chemistry, matter and devices. When she works on photography or cinema, Juliana Borinski almost never uses a camera or camera. It creates images, generally abstract, directly using photosensitive paper or film in order to explore their clean aesthetic and technical capacities. What should only be a receptacle of the image, its support, becomes the very material of his work.
Juliana Borinski is looking for error, lack, chance. It is voluntarily at the margin of the systems it exploits, the visual media, taking care to avoid the image in the usual sense and new technologies, to favor "almost nothing". This unconventional practice is also found in the fact that each piece is unique, at a time when copying an element requires only one click, and while its work tools are photography and cinema, hero of technical reproducibility analyzed by Walter Benjamin.
