Laurent Minguet, artist and designer specialized in urban furniture and furnishings, was born in 1969 in Toulouse where he lives and works. A fan of acrylic on canvas from a very young age, he learns alone and paints only with a brush. In the 1980s, guided by car silhouettes, he perfected his skills in the hyper-realistic style. From 1998, inspired by his first great journeys, he focused on landscapes marked by hyperurbanization. Since then, he has been surveying the largest megacities in search of the best photographic angle of iconic or arbitrary places. In his studio, he then methodically draws them in pencil and then paints them, making them remarkable for the balance of their contrasts. The supports used today are fine essences, walnut, cherry or oak, natural and raw. He carefully selects them so that their random veining reinforces the dynamics of an extremely detailed set. The line, precise and essential, then freezes for an instant the agitation and architectural density of its graphic composition. To break the linearity of noble wood, the artist will work with monochrome acrylic in opposition to the photorealistic precision of the painting, thus revealing the strength of his different interpretations. The continuity of the urban landscape recreated with a brush in the illusion of natural transparency finally marks the end of the work. Through his paintings, Laurent Minguet invites us to travel in complete freedom.
