Mathias takes a picture of a subject related to his daily life, something harmless but that he sees every day. Printed in black and white, he reworked it in acrylic, watercolour and ink.

He plays on overlap and transparency to create an atmosphere around this subject captured on the spot by the camera, as we would have seen in passing and then forgotten. Mathias likes to bring the photographic snapshot into the timelessness of painting.

Finally, the subject is geolocated to allow the viewer to find it in situ, in order to appropriate it even more.

The poetics of the forgotten.... Digging into the ordinary and immobile everyday life, into what we have built, used and forgotten, looking for what we no longer see because we no longer look.... To restore the very essence of our urban life through these neglected people who are often judged to be outside aesthetic criteria. This is the approach that has always been important to me, finding interest everywhere and especially where the eyes don't go right away... My work mixes painting, photography and sculpture, in order to restore, without distorting it, the expressiveness felt during these instantaneous encounters that I provoke. I also attach importance to the spatial dimension by geolocating the subjects, thus allowing the spectator to be able to find them in situ, and why not to notice that he has already passed by there without having taken the time to look... Mathias' passion for drawing and painting dates back to childhood, a father in photography, an uncle who introduced him to watercolour and a cousin to music. It was therefore natural for him to move to the École supérieure d'art de Brest (ESAB), where he discovered the richness of mixed techniques, the power of the Black & White print and the beauty of engraving. In addition to his plastic research, Mathias continues to give classes and workshops for schoolchildren, but also for prisoners at the Brest Remand Prison. In recent years, the beauty and originality of Mathias' work, which combines bas-relief polystyrene sculpture, photography and painting, has been rewarded on numerous occasions with prizes and artistic distinctions and several invitations for artist residencies (Wrac'h Island Lighthouse).
