Monica Sarandrea has always been fascinated by the symbolism of the swan. In shamanism, the totem pole of the swan is associated with love, grace and inspiration. In oriental traditions it symbolizes elegance and nobility. His candor reflects the sunlight but he can also embody the lunar light - the two poles, the feminine/male complementarity, yin/yang.

She has tried here to translate this union through the strength of the stylized, essential contours and the delicacy of the bird represented.

Sculptor of Italian origin, Monica Sarandrea creates works in search of a personal link to nature and its spiritual dimensions.

From informal art to abstraction

Born in Rome, Monica Sarandrea has devoted herself to drawing and in particular, to landscape painting. After several stays in Paris from 2005 to 2010, she enroled in classes taught by Alberto Parres at La Porta Blu Art School.

Sarandrea has worked with chromatic and gesture painting, gradually moving towards informal art and abstraction. From 2011, she has devoted herself to sculpture, focusing on materials such as stone, clay and plaster.

Creating a dialogue between nature and its elements

Monica Sarandrea’s works are the result of a dialogue with nature and its elements, in particular, water and land, which are intimately linked to femininity. This research evokes a certain biomorphism, halfway between the animal world and that of human beings.

Poetry, in particular, French symbolism, plays a crucial role among his sources of inspiration, on the same level as oriental philosophies imbued with animism.
