"The sacred feminine has been, for a few years, an important axis in my personal research. The cult of the Great Mother has produced through several millenary cultures a large number of idols (from the Greek eìdolon - image) worshipped over the centuries. With this work I have tried to translate the linearity and purity of the forms associated with these sculptures: despite their small size, their enchanting power is undeniable. The mother goddess is a symbol of the feminine and for this reason her attributes are obvious - breasts, rounded belly and prominent hips. She welcomes her spectator through her sweetness as well as her strength." - Monica Sarandrea

Sculptor of Italian origin, Monica Sarandrea creates works in search of a personal link to nature and its spiritual dimensions.

From informal art to abstraction

Born in Rome, Monica Sarandrea has devoted herself to drawing and in particular, to landscape painting. After several stays in Paris from 2005 to 2010, she enroled in classes taught by Alberto Parres at La Porta Blu Art School.

Sarandrea has worked with chromatic and gesture painting, gradually moving towards informal art and abstraction. From 2011, she has devoted herself to sculpture, focusing on materials such as stone, clay and plaster.

Creating a dialogue between nature and its elements

Monica Sarandrea’s works are the result of a dialogue with nature and its elements, in particular, water and land, which are intimately linked to femininity. This research evokes a certain biomorphism, halfway between the animal world and that of human beings.

Poetry, in particular, French symbolism, plays a crucial role among his sources of inspiration, on the same level as oriental philosophies imbued with animism.
