After limestone, aerated concrete appears as a very light material and can be cut like butter, with a higher risk of removing too much material. The cutting is done with chisels and mallets, and the shapes are refined with a rasp. Gradually, the form approached the totem pole.

"Unique piece made in Brittany by the sculptor Marie Bonnefond, who knew how to accompany me on the path to size and encourage my creativity." - Ariane Crovisier

As an art therapist by training, I met modelling under the prism of care by working with people in psychological difficulty. At the same time, I pursued my own artistic experience of the earth, in workshops with different teachers but mainly as a self-taught artist. Since then, the date of my first encounter with clay goes back 16 years. In question around the psychological processes at work in a creative process, I immediately oriented myself towards the modelling of abstract forms, and more punctually by exploring hard materials (soapstone, limestone, cellular concrete). I also experiment the work of coloring my pieces with different techniques: waxing, shellac, pigments, acrylic, enamels. I explore the void, the full, the third dimension, the relief that is experienced by the touch of the living surface of the earth, in movement towards a sensitive exchange. It is a game of concealment between myself and what is born from hand-to-hand contact with the material. Something flows from the inside to the outside. My intention is to establish a dialogue with the earth where it responds to me, resists me, directs me, calls me to the unexpected. Never knowing in advance the path that will be taken... Starting without any prior idea, I leave room for the surprise of what will emerge as volume, hollow, empty, full, curves, points before reaching a form that seems to me accomplished. This path, step by step, leads me to a work where we can see organic themes, the body, the circular, the movement, the flight, the verticality, the tortuous, the totemic... The search for movement has guided me to a work of matter such that it can, once cooked, be transposed in different directions, that it can be seen from different angles, offering the possibility of an interaction with the one who looks at it, who can then manipulate it, return it to decipher other volumes. Leave room for everyone’s imagination....
