Maurizio Toffoletti was born in Lecce, southern Italy. He graduated from the State School of Art and the Academy of Fine Arts of Lecce where he received a solid classical training.

As far back as he can remember, he has always wanted to be a sculptor, marble fascinated him. His initial influences are those of Antiquity - Egyptian in particular, and of the classics such as Michelangelo, who guide his first creations. Quickly, he opens to other influences: those of the great modern Masters such as Brancus, Moore, Picasso. Dail, Miro, Max Ba, Marino Marini, Calder, Arp.

His move to Paris in 1989 marked a turning point in his career and in his artistic evolution.

Maurizo Toffoletti establishes marble as the material of contemporary creation. He favors monumental sculptures. His research leads him towards transparency, the play of light on and in marble, which his art makes diaphanous.

From 1990, the artist seeks to make marble vibrate: the stone becomes a musical instrument under the caress. It is at the same time that he explores the notions of space-time: galaxies, the birth of a star, stars, meteorites, black holes, the explosion of a supernova, planets become his new source of inspiration. This is how he creates mobile sculptures: meteorite rain, he is also inspired by the city, which he represents in aerial view.
Since his arrival in France, he has not stopped exhibiting.

All of these exhibitions have definitively placed Maurizio Toffoletti's work in the international artistic landscape.
