From an early age, Jérôme Poumès has been inexorably attracted to drawing and painting, which he practices for several hours a day in order, he tells us, to escape the world around him and create a universe within from which he finds serenity and satisfaction. After obtaining a baccalaureate in philosophy and art history in Bayonne, he left his native region and studied for two years in the famous art school "Penninghen" rue du Dragon in Paris and finished his student cycle in the no less famous academy. Charpentier, still in Paris. Along with a successful career as an artistic director, he devotes himself to pictorial expression in various forms and techniques, but more particularly to acrylic on canvas with a knife. Academically trained, his painting took several directions from figurative to abstract or even to a certain form of expressionism.
The universe he offers is very energetic through his compositions, his spirited craftsmanship as well as his particularly contrasting tones rich in nuances. The sources of inspiration are history, human feelings and emotions, mythology, the urban environment or the beauties of nature to name but a few examples.
His works draw their essence from his own experience and his personal emotions. He remains above all an "artist-researcher", an explorer, always in search of unexplored creative lands. The urge to move from the 2D to the 3D universe is undoubtedly the result of the lifelong fascination with the impact of light on the object, creating volume.
This quest for power that characterizes his work on canvas is perpetuated through the carefully chosen, modeled, hammered and patinated shapes of these steel pieces.
Jérôme Poumès is an artist on the "AKOUN" side in painting. He exhibits regularly in France and abroad, for example at the SARRIA International Exhibition in Spain in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017 or in TOKYO since 2013.
