Antonin Anzil makes volumes, sinuous and abstract, sometimes even geometrical forms, spring from paper, which are renowned for being so incredibly white and calm. By highlighting all the material qualities of paper, his favorite material, he invites us to reconsider it each in his own way, and according to his own imagination to discover cloudlike, aerial or even cartographic landscapes.

A Key Interest in Engraving

Born in 1988 in Blois, Antonin Anzil lives and works in Paris. He graduated from the École Européenne Supérieure de l'Image de Poitiers in 2010, and from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris in 2012. He then worked at the Maison Francis Kurkdjian design studio until 2017.

Infatuated with paper, Antonin Anzil was mentored by a great figure in the field, François Verdier. This engraver introduced him to a technique, tools and papers that Antonin still uses today to create his bas-reliefs.

The Work of a Goldsmith on Paper

Finesse and delicacy characterize his artistic work. The paper support seems incompatible with the idea that one has of engraving or sculpture; and yet. The artist painstakingly creates a raised surface, bringing shapes and motifs to life, multiplies the dots, and creates a whole new world on paper. On the white, bright surface of the paper, inner landscapes develop, invented maps, secret motives.

Palpable Art that Oscillates between Figurative and Abstract

Antonin Anzil's works are both poetic and tangible, and one would almost like to caress the delicate lacework with one's fingertips. It is up to each of us to build our own personal images, to find our own reference points between the lines.

Some seem to be marked by the decorative arts, and close to the textile, recalling the patterns of drapes or tapestries. Others remind us of calm landscapes, aerial views of far away lands...You just have to let yourself go and allow your mind to dream of this trip.

Antonin Anzil also works on commission. Do not hesitate to contact the KAZoART team for more information.
