Fabien Caceres is a graphic designer by training. Her work is based on printed materials (visual identities, posters, brochures, etc.) - with typography as the backbone - but sometimes flirts with the visual arts, two complementary paths. Since 2010, he has also been developing an incarnated and assumed plastic research: simplified, prismatic figures of different sizes and scales, whose synthetic image is here a referent and a tool.
This modeling, the sum of edges and planes, confronts us more with the idea of an object. It is between theoretical and practical bodies that we must grasp the challenge of work, the singularity of the approach. The tension created between the disembodiment produced by the digital tool and its reification in matter reflects this desire to make language. The transfiguration of reality is no longer an end in itself, it becomes a vehicle, it carries a message. Fabien Caceres’ sculptures evolve on several levels: that of representation through a questioning around the relationship of appropriation and/or subjection that we maintain with the codification of form; that of interpretation. These figures are presented, in the intermediate space of the two referents who originate them (the digital image and the real representation in volume), as fictionalization supports. Everyone tries both to relate what they see to what they know, but also sees something other than what they are experiencing.
On the level of sculpture and statuary in particular, it brings together rupture and continuity. Continuity assumed with a modern history of sculpture and its modes of presentation, but also and in an almost symmetrical way, a break with the use that his contemporaries make of the digital. The result is a dynamic and dual work in which the mental image crosses a world of algorithms to be reborn in a body, in a sculpture.
