Sculpture in non-toxic acrylic resin, dyed in the mass with pure pigments.

We all have the Buddha nature within us. It is up to us to reveal it in order to reach enlightenment.

Over the centuries, the different Buddhist schools have developed various practices that everyone can experience: reading sutras, teaching from master to student, meditation, mantra recitation, etc.

The artist wanted to represent the diversity of human beings in a unique form, that of Buddha, but with changing colours. We are all the same and yet all different.

Colours and their mixtures evoke what makes us different, our individuality, the state of our mind, the intertwining of our thoughts, our progress in the path.

Within this multitude, what is the color of awakening? What is the color of Buddha?

Olivier Morel

PARIS (75), FRANCE

126 works

Buddhas, flowers and Mickey Mouse heads… at first glance, they may not seem to have anything in common. And yet… Olivier Morel stages his favourite subjects, sometimes combining them, and most frequently in a square format. The result of these linocut artworks is colourful, pop and fun!

A plastic artist and teacher

Plastic artist Oliver Morel expresses himself primarily through painting, drawing and engraving but also practices photography and video-making. He exhibits his work in France and abroad in art galleries and art centres.

Alongside his career as an artist, he has published a number of albums for young people. He also runs Artkids, a workshop for children, in his own studio, and set up the Iki Artstudio, which offers internships and artistic support. He taught plastic arts at the Atelier de Sèvres in Paris for nineteen years.

Eastern philosophy as a field of experimentation

The themes addressed in Olivier Morel's work are resolutely contemporary and cover a wide spectrum. Looking closely at the world of today (the Nouveau Monde series), he tackles not only a number of current affairs subjects, such as globalisation, terrorism and global warming (the series 1000 Nuits) but also more contemplative subjects (Forêts) inspired by Eastern philosophy.
