A serene and protected woman stands upright and dignified. The enamel gives her bronze tones that reinforce her metallic brilliance and her beautiful appearance.

Gérard Lartigue seeks Rodin’s truth, the truth which enables beauty to be manifested. To represent the human face and body, one must explore the volumes under the skin, muscle tension and bone structure.

Three decades immortalising the beauty of the body

Gérard Lartigue's work alternates between the forces of Eros (eroticism) and Thanatos (death). The artist believes firmly in the ability of forms and material to recreate life. Starting out as a painter, he has been a full-time artist for thirty years.

Lartique’s work is no longer a simple representation, it is now a living artwork. He considers himself to be a citizen of the world and a witness of our era, living in the present moment, free from his past. He spent his childhood and teenage years on another continent, America.

Hand gestures as a universal language, journey after journey

Later, Gérard Lartigue travelled primarily in Europe. Fluent in three languages, he managed to make himself understood almost everywhere he went, primarily using his hands. He explores human nature, going beyond the filters of culture, nation, social positions, profession, etc., and has become a highly skilled portrait artist. Drawing has always been the foundation of his art.

Lartigue works with different materials, from stone to marble, clay, plaster and bronze. He goes beyond figurative presence, exploring the deeper layers that affect time, the intangible, and the connection between matter and spirit.

In 2017, the renowned French writer Michel Houllebecq said, "Your bust of me is impressive. The earthy material has extreme expressive power."

"Artworks created from a vision that looks deep into the human being. From inert matter come expressive, lively faces." Painter and art critic Ksenia Milicevic.
