Béatrice GRANDJEAN began her professional career as a freelance graphic designer, regularly expressing herself through drawing, illustration and photography. She works for design agencies and creative studios.
From 1996 she completes this activity by teaching graphic design and plastic arts in professional training centres and in her own workshop (drawing and sculpture).
For more than 20 years her professional life has taken a much more artistic turn and her creativity is expressed through different techniques: ink, watercolour, mixed media... Thanks to learning calligraphy she enriches her graphic expression. She confronts the white page, privileges free creation, associating the energy of words with the suggestion of landscapes. A gestural work, inspired by calligraphy, an impulse, a journey in the light, in the warmth of colors and textures of writing.
Sculpture is currently her favourite artistic discipline. In a sober and contemporary spirit, she sculpts abstract forms or stylized silhouettes... In her work, she always looks for the purity of lines and pure forms. In the balance of the contrasts between the rough and the smooth, the roundness and the smoothness she contributes to reveal the mineral beauty. She makes her pieces in direct cut, letting herself be carried by the original shape of the stone. It is a physical and sensual exchange, a permanent discovery.
